Walk-ins are full. Is there another consultation service in the Granby/Bromont area?

My 13 year old has an earache and says it's blocked. It started a few days ago. Advils and Tylenols are not helping. I also tried a mineral oil treatment in case it was a wax plug. No luck. We are going on a camping vacation this Friday afternoon... There is a family history of ear infections.

Does he have pain in one ear?
Does he have a fever?
What is his weight?
What dose of tylenol and advil do you give?
With pleasure

Good evening! Thank you for your quick reply!
Yes, he has been swimming a lot lately
He has pain in one ear, the left one. He complained about it a bit about 10 days ago but it seemed to have passed. The more acute pain came back two days ago
He does not have a fever but is amorphous since the pain is bothering him
He weighs 90 lbs. I give him the recommended dose of Advil for children (chewable) of 3 capsules. It temporarily reduces the pain but it is still there
Hope to see you soon!

So-called swimmer's ear can occur as a result of swimming in the summer.
If your son pulls on his earlobe and the pain comes on and he feels like he has water in his ear, it could be that
To relieve his pain depending on his weight, you can go with
400mg of advil every 6 to 8 hours (max 4 doses per 24h)
Or even
600mg of tylenol every 4 to 6 hours (max 5 doses per 24 hours)
Sometimes the doses on the packaging are not accurate so check them. If you are already giving the right dose and he is amorphous, you should definitely consult a doctor, especially if the combination of the 2 does not relieve him. Poor thing. Otherwise, adjust your dose and monitor his relief and general condition.
To try to treat the otitis at home, here is what I suggest:
Make a homemade preparation
5ml of white vinegar mixed with 10ml of 70% rubbing alcohol
With a dropper, put 4 drops of the mixture in the ear four times a day for 7 days
If you do not see any change after 24 hours or if the symptoms worsen (pain, fever, decrease in general condition, etc.) you should consult a doctor
Then, if it is indeed swimmer's ear, to prevent it from happening again, you will have to either dry your ears with a dryer after swimming or put 4 drops of this same preparation after each swim
Can you write me again tomorrow to let me know how it is going?
Ps: for appointments, have you looked at bonjour santé?
I look forward to hearing from you,
Vicky, pharmacist.
