I often have to urinate, what should I do until I see the doctor?

I am a 77 year old man, and I have been suffering from a prostate problem for some time. I always have the urge to urinate..but I can't urinate completely Is it possible that I have another problem than the prostate, either the bladder or the kidneys? How long do I have to wait?
