I have regular vaginoses, what can I do?

32-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I regularly take over-the-counter cures for bacterial vaginosis (not yeast vaginitis, but vaginosis), but it seems to come back after each menstruation... what else can I do?

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
Commercial over-the-counter products offer little benefit for the prevention of bacterial vaginal infections and are therefore not recommended. Also, 'cure' products are definitely to be avoided as they can actually increase the risk of infection by disrupting the normal pH and flora.
It will be necessary to focus on non-pharmacological measures, such as:
  • Avoid using soaps to clean your private parts, except for a product without perfume or agent that could be irritating, such as the Dove bar
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothing
  • For hygiene after a bowel movement, wipe from top to bottom (front to back)
  • It is recommended to urinate (if possible!) after sex.
If these measures are ineffective or insufficient, a doctor should be consulted to rule out other causes and discuss treatment options.
I hope this has been helpful, and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
