Is Reactin more effective than Benadryl? Can the dose be increased to control the reaction?

I have had an itchy rash for 2-3 days. I have been taking Benadryl for 4 hours since this morning. I think it's a reaction to some wine I drank. I already had a hives reaction a few years ago and it seems that a md told me that I could take up to 4 reactin a day.

Hello,
The effectiveness of each of the molecules you mentioned depends on the dose used. In general, Benadryl is more effective than Reactin for skin problems. The effect is less long on the other hand and it can cause drowsiness. Reactine has a 24 hour effect and can take up to 2-3 days to reach optimal effectiveness
You can take a 50 mg dose of Benadryl (2 x 25 mg tablets) every 6 hours combined with a 20 mg dose of Reactine once a day. This combination should only be used for a few days. Once you have stabilized the problem, only Reactine should be used at a dose of 20 mg per day
In more refractory cases, it is actually possible to take 40 mg of Reactine (4 OTC tablets at a rate of 2 tablets twice a day)
I hope that I have been able to answer your question. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
