Hello,
A rash in the armpit can be caused by several reasons. It can be contact with an irritating product (ex: change of laundry detergent) as well as eczema. A fungal component is frequently seen as this is an area of the body that can be more humid than others, especially if you are physically active.
Generally, rashes can resolve on their own. You can try applying a fragrance-free colloidal oatmeal cream (e.g. Aveeno) and warm compresses. Try to keep the area dry and clean, you can also change your shirt if necessary.
Further treatment with medication will depend on the cause and level of discomfort associated to your symptoms.
  • For antifungal treatment: clotrimazole 1% cream applied twice a day under the armpits for one week
  • For an eczema treatment or without fungal component: hydrocortisone 1% cream applied once or twice a day in a thin layer as needed for 1 week
