Are there any over-the-counter supplements or medications to boost female fertility?

I have fertility problems (9cm cyst on my ovary, diagnosed during my first pregnancy). My BMI is well above the standards for being followed in a fertility clinic. I am wondering if there are any over-the-counter supplements that I can add to the folic acid to boost my fertility? Note that I have no other known health problems, I take pantoprazole and 10mg/2days of citalopram.

Hello Marie-Pier,
To my knowledge, there are unfortunately no over-the-counter supplements that have been scientifically proven to improve fertility.
However, lifestyle habits can play a role. Among the factors that can decrease fertility are smoking, alcohol or drug use, being overweight, stress and anxiety.
When it comes to medications and treatments, there are several options. The right choice of treatment depends on the cause of the infertility. Here are some treatment options:
  • Ovulation stimulation;
  • Intrauterine insemination;
  • In vitro fertilization;
  • Egg donation;
  • Reproductive surgery.
In all cases, it is best to talk to your doctor.
I know that this subject can be very emotional and I wish you the best of luck in the future.
Hoping for the best!
Olivier
