What to do or apply for diaper rash?

31-year-old womana year ago
Hello, my 3 week old son has a diaper rash that doesn't seem to be getting any better. Recently, he has started to get small pimples under the skin. We have tried Cerave cream and Zincofax, but there is little improvement.

Good morning, ma'am,
How long have you noticed this? What is the concentration and frequency of use of Zincofax?

Hello,
About 2 weeks ago. The Zincofax has 69% white petroleum jelly and 15% zinc oxide. We use it at every diaper change so every 2-3 hours. For a few days we stopped using the Zincofax to try the Cerave cream.
Thank you

Thank you for the information.
The 15% concentration is adequate for prevention but not when there is erythema. I strongly suggest Zincofax extra strength, concentrated at 40% which will be more effective.
Use it at every diaper change, and check the diaper often to change it as soon as it becomes the least bit soiled or wet.
Use unscented wet wipes for cleaning, and avoid rubbing the skin after bathing, instead lightly pat and apply the ointment quickly afterwards.
If you do not notice any improvement after 7 days, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
