My 20 month old daughter has difficulty having a bowel movement?

38-year-old woman3 years ago
Hi, my daughter is 20 months old and is having trouble having a bowel movement. She seems to have a stomach ache most of the day. She has one bowel movement a day or every other day and they are large hard stools. I give her probiotics every day. I try to give her foods that are rich in fiber, but she is a bit picky and does not eat everything. Is there anything that could help her? She weighs 27 lbs.

Hi, thanks for your question!
You are right to encourage him to eat high-fiber foods. You should also encourage him to drink a lot of fluids to help soften the stool
If needed, PEG-3350 powder (LAX-A-DAY, Restoralax and other brands) can be given in a small amount of liquid once a day. The dose is 1 gram of powder per kg of your child's weight, so about 12 grams of powder.
Your pharmacist can tell you how to measure this amount.
I hope this has been helpful to you and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
