My 3 1/2 year old boy seems to have laryngitis
He coughs a lot, his voice tone is different, he complains of a sore throat. he coughs like a bark.
And he has a fever (38,9 rectal)
Is it absolutely necessary to give him a dose of liquid cortisone or does time take its effect? What to give him to help soothe his throat?

For now, I strongly suggest nasal hygiene with saline and then using the baby fly, as often as needed during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids, too. If it persists for more than a week or gets worse, or if the fever persists for 72 hours or more, you should see a doctor.
