Vaginitis in pregnancy. What to do about it?

24-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, I went to see a doctor 2 weeks ago and was prescribed a 1% clotrimaderm cream to apply on the outside because on the inside (vaginal area) it was irritated. After the 7 day treatment, 1 application morning and night, I saw no difference. I saw my doctor again and she told me to do the treatment again but this time to apply the cream outside. So I went to the pharmacy to buy a clotrimazole cream for vaginal application but this time, 2%.

Hello,
It is perfectly safe to use clotrimazole or miconazole cream in pregnancy. If you mention 2%, isn't it miconazole that you took at the pharmacy?
I would suggest a 7 day treatment again. If after 3 days, you do not notice any improvement, I believe you will have no choice but to go back to the doctor. In pregnancy, the oral capsule of fluconazole (normally available on demand at the pharmacy) is contraindicated. This treatment is normally more effective than creams, but in your situation, we cannot use it
Your doctor may prescribe terconazole cream (Terazol). This product is even more effective than the oral capsule, but it is safe in all trimesters of pregnancy. It is usually used for more resistant vaginitis. To get this treatment, you absolutely need a prescription from your doctor though
I hope that I have been able to give you some guidance with my answer
