What can I do or take for influenza symptoms?

33-year-old womana year ago
I think I have the flu. My kids brought home a virus from daycare. Since Saturday I have a fever, I am cold, I am hot. I also have pain everywhere, my eyelids and my head are painful. This morning I was dizzy, my heart hurt and I had difficulty getting up. I have a lot of secretion in my nose, a little cough.

Hello ma'am, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
In order to better understand your needs, would it be possible to know if you have tried anything for your symptoms, if you are currently taking other medications, if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, and finally, do you have any allergies or intolerances?

For now, I take advil every 4-6 hours and do sinus rinses. I am not taking any other medication, I am not pregnant and I am not breastfeeding either. I have an allergy to penicillin and soy.

Thank you for the information!
You did well with the painkiller (if you have no contraindications to taking it, which your pharmacist will confirm) and the nasal douches. I suggest nasal douches as often as necessary during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. It's a little uncomfortable but works wonders.
I encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference. Lozenges such as Halls or Fisherman's Friend can provide local relief of throat irritation if needed.
If your symptoms persist for more than a week without improvement, you should consult a physician as a precaution. I will be available if you have any further questions!
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, Pharmacist
