Accutane and hair loss?

43-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, after my humira treatment for Crohn's and spa, I started to suffer from acne. A dermatologist then prescribed me accutane. The problem is that I lose my hair a lot. I lose it even more after increasing the dose from 20 to 30 mg. What can I do to reduce/stop the loss? Will the hair grow back after the treatment? Thanks to you ☺️

Hello, thank you for your question!
Hair loss is a fairly common side effect of Accutane. It is also normal that you report an increase in hair loss with the increase of the dose.
If the hair loss is secondary to the medication you are taking, there is not much you can do about it. In most cases, a decrease in the dose of the suspected medication, or stopping it, is attempted. However, if this is not an option, there are shampoos that have been used in some people reporting thinning or loss of hair secondary to certain medications: Nioxin may help, but do not expect miracles.
In some cases, it is recommended that you see your doctor again for a check-up to make sure that the hair loss is not secondary to another problem or deficiency.
I hope I have helped you, and I am available if you have any other questions!

Thank you for your answer! Can I expect my hair to grow back when we stop the treatment? How long does it take before the medication is completely out of my system after stopping? In the meantime, I am taking nutricap.

Yes, this side effect is temporary and disappears in the vast majority of cases, if it is due to the medication
For hair, it can take several weeks or even months, it is impossible to predict with certainty.
