My 20 day old baby seems constipated?

30-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, my 20 day old baby has been constipated for 4 days (hard stools in little balls). What can I give him to relieve him? The nurse at the clinic suggested Laxaday. How many grams if he weighs 4.57kg? Thank you

Hi, thanks for your question!
At this age, your baby is still learning to digest, whether it's your milk or a commercial formula. No need to worry at this time, and Lax-A-Day is not indicated at this time either.
I would encourage you to give the drink (milk or formula) as often as possible to your little one
I believe that non-pharmacological measures should be preferred at this stage. As you mentioned, you can give very small amounts of water to drink. The following product is safe for newborns:
Also, you can lay your baby on his back and give him squatting exercises: bending his hips as if to make his knees touch his chest, and/or movements that stimulate pedaling a bike, among others.
I refer you to the following link for more information on constipation at this age:
I hope I have been helpful to you, please contact me if you have any further questions!
