Which laxative is compatible with breastfeeding?

34-year-old woman5 years ago
My doctor recommended lax-a-day and told me it was breastfeeding friendly, but it says otherwise on the package. What am I trusting? I want it to be safe for my baby. I want it to be safe for my baby. Thank you.

Hello,
Despite the warnings on the packaging, the references confirm that Lax-a-Day powder is indeed compatible with breastfeeding because of its low absorption. You can therefore use it without fear for your baby
When there is not 100% certainty, companies protect themselves by being more cautious than less, and prefer to tell you to consult your health care professional or not to use their product in order to avoid liability in case of a problem. That said, Lax-a-day has been used in several breastfeeding women since it was first introduced and no problems have been reported to date. On the contrary, it happens to be one of the safest options for breastfeeding women compared to others.
I hope this reassures you. If there is anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me again and I will be happy to help you.
Sincerely,
David Tan, pharmacist
