My daughter has a temperature and she reacts very poorly to the dose of advil or Tylenol we give her. She is 14 months old.

Hello!
Tylenol and Advil are indeed the first choices for fever control in children. In order to give you a complete answer, I would like to ask you some questions:
  • What is your child's weight?
  • What are the doses and dosages of Tylenol and Advil used? Also, what are the concentrations of the 2 medications?
  • What is her fever?
  • How long has she had a fever?
  • Does your child have any other symptoms? If so, which ones and for how long?
We look forward to talking with you!

Hello,
My daughter weighs 10.42 kg and we give her a little over 1.5 ml of tylenol or advil.

The fever is between 37.6 and 37.9.

These are the concentrations for newborns, i.e. 40 mg/ml for advil and 80mg/ml for Tylenol

And it has been going on since Saturday night. There are other symptoms like coughing during nap time only.

Thanks for the clarification!
In children, the doses of Tylenol and Advil can be calculated according to weight.
For Tylenol, the amount given could be increased to 1.9ml every 4 to 6 hours if needed (max 5 doses per day)
For Advil, the given amount can be increased to 2.6ml every 4 to 6 hours if needed (max 4 doses per day)
Here are some things to watch out for that would require a medical consultation:
  • Fever of 38°C or more for at least 3 days
  • Fever of 40°C
  • Appearance of vomiting that prevents feeding
  • Changes in your child's behaviour (e.g., decreased concentration, unexplained fatigue during the day)
Of course, if you buy other over-the-counter products with different concentrations, the dose to be administered will have to be recalculated!
