Can I continue to take my supplements (glucosamine, chondroitin, omega-3, quercetin, melatonin, coenzyme Q10, turmeric and whey) if I have recently received a Prolia injection?

Hello, I received an injection of Prolia for osteoporosis this morning. I am taking supplements and would like to know if I should stop. My doctor is on vacation, so I am asking this question. I would also like to inform you that I am taking two medications, Vasotec and Elavil. In addition, I am taking vitamin D and Calcium as a prescription. Thank you for answering my question. Here is the list of supplements and other substances: Melatonin Quercetin Glucosamine and chondroitin Omega-3 Co-enzyme Q-10 Occasional : Cortisone lotion Turmeric Whey

In order to answer your question, I would first need to know why you started these supplements. The injection of Prolia probably doesn't change your situation with regards to these supplements. Please come back to me with the information here.

Glucosamine, Chondroitin and omega-3 for years because of a knee injury. Cortisone on the scalp, but with Quercetin I manage to not apply cortisone. Turmeric is an antioxidant. Whey for energy. Finally melatonin to get to sleep with breaks when I can. Q-10 : suggestion of my doctor a long time ago.

Thank you for this information. You should know that all these supplements do not interact with Prolia, and that despite taking Prolia you should continue to take calcium and vitamin D. The other supplements you mentioned can be continued. If the glucosamine/chondroitin/omega-3 gives you relief and your triglyceride levels are not negatively affected by the omega-3, I don't see a problem with using them either. Also, so much the better if the quercetin allows you to not use too much cortisone and the melatonin taken occasionally to allow you to sleep better. For turmeric and whey, taking it in the diet might be sufficient, unless they have been prescribed for a particular condition. Finally, there is very little data to support the use of coenzyme Q10. The enthusiasm that we had for this molecule a few years ago has dissipated somewhat. You can discuss it again with your doctor when he/she comes back from vacation.
