Hello. I gave birth 8 weeks ago. I have anal fissures due to episodes of constipation. I am breastfeeding. What can I use to treat myself. It is very painful and I have bleeding on the toilet paper at each bowel movement...

Hello Mrs
Anusol Plus ointment, available without a prescription, can be applied to the irritated area (inside and outside if needed) twice a day and after each bowel movement.
Avoid sitting on the toilet bowl for long periods of time, as this can make the situation worse. Get up as soon as you are finished (do not read the newspaper or your cell phone for example).
For constipation, taking PEG-3350 (LAX-A-DAY, Restoralax and other brands) can help soften stools. It is a tasteless, odorless powder that can be diluted in a small amount of any liquid and drunk once a day as needed. I encourage you to eat lots of fiber (fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc) and drink lots of fluids to soften the stool.
If the situation does not seem to improve after 2 weeks, or if it gets worse, you should consult a doctor.
I will remain available if you have any further questions
Sincerely
Tom Samaha, pharmacist

Thank you for your quick answer! Are these products compatible with breastfeeding? How long does it usually take to recover?

Yes, these are safe to use while breastfeeding.
For hemorrhoids/cracks, it may take 1 to 2 weeks. For constipation, it may take a few days depending on the person.
