I started Jencycla on August 28th. I took it for 26 consecutive days. Out of those 26 days, I had bleeding daily for the last 20 days (either spotting or 1-2 nightly sanitary napkins filled per day). I stopped taking it last Friday because along with the bleeding, I also have occasional mild abdominal cramps. Today, 5 days later, the bleeding persists and since last night, at times, I still have these slight pains. They do not last and are very light. I wonder if this is normal with this medication or if I should go see a doctor. Thank you for your help!

The chances of me being pregnant are minimal. I even took a pregnancy test at home to verify this assumption. The test was negative.

Hello Mrs,
Light bleeding or spotting can occur when a new contraceptive method is started. This can sometimes take 3 to 6 months to resolve
For Jencycla, the risk of bleeding is increased if it is not taken at the same time each day
That being said, stopping Jencycla can also cause withdrawal bleeding
Otherwise, I would have suggested continuing the contraceptive, but considering that I do not know the reasons why you are taking a progestin-only contraceptive, your other trials, your history, I strongly suggest to talk to your pharmacist who is in a better position to advise you and, if necessary, suggest alternatives to your doctor.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist

My background:
Alesse taken for years...intense headaches + no libido...decision to stop
Alysena taken for 2 years...headaches + no libido...decision to stop
Depo-provera tried for 6 months...weight gain of 30 lbs...decision to stop
After trying different contraceptives and their side effects, I decided to stop taking the pill. But I did a last try after talking to a pharmacist at Medzy...he suggested Jencycla considering that I should not have headaches, not lose my libido and not gain weight
The bleeding was not worrying according to him. On the other hand he found abnormal that I still have abdominal pains at the end of my first cycle.
I am consulting a second pharmacist.

Note that I always took Jencycla at the same time every day during these 26 days.

Do you think I should continue it even if I still have abdominal cramps after 1 month?

I don't see a problem with continuing Jencycla as long as the cramps are tolerable and you have noticed that they tend to diminish over time. However, there are other options besides tablets (patch, implant, IUD). If you want to stop Jencycla, I would suggest talking to your doctor as a precaution.
