How long does it take from the time I start taking a birth control pill before it takes effect?

Hello Ma'am,

If the pill is taken within the first 7 days of the cycle (i.e., when menstruation begins), then it is effective the first time.

If it is started elsewhere in the cycle, then one must use both the pill and condoms (or abstinence) for the first 7 days of taking the pill).
