Can I go to the pharmacy for a treatment or do I need to consult?

24-year-old womana year ago
I know it's not its, as I was tested two weeks ago. However, I had a new partner (protected) and I have some symptoms that look a bit like a UTI but not as intense (I am able to function without going to the bathroom every 2 minutes, but it is irritated a bit)

Hello,
You mention that your symptoms are similar to those of a urinary tract infection or a yeast infection. Since these are two different infections, I would need more details in order to better advise you.
Following your answers, I will be in a better position to direct you towards the ideal resource or product for your situation:
  1. Can you please describe your symptoms more. (Aspect of vaginal discharge, color, odor, texture, quantity)
  2. Do you have any of the following signs or symptoms: vaginal itching, genital sores, burning sensation when urinating, fever, chills, abdominal pain, lower abdominal pain during sex. If so, please tell me which ones.
  3. Are you pregnant?
  4. Are you immunosuppressed?
  5. Have you ever been diagnosed with yeast vaginitis in the last 5 years?
  6. Have you ever been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection in the last 5 years?
Thank you in advance,
I will answer you as soon as possible

I don't really have any discharge, I only have a little rustle when I urinate which is quite bearable.
no other symptoms, and never had a UTI diagnosis and for the yeast infection I had already been treated with over the counter canestan more than 5 years ago, so never a diagnosis either. But as mentioned, I had a screening test two weeks ago and the results were normal.

Thank you for the clarification!
So if I understand correctly, you currently feel a slight burning sensation when you urinate, but you do not have any other symptoms?
If this is the case, you should know that during a urinary infection, the most frequent symptoms are the following
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • The need to urinate more often in small amounts
  • Discomfort (like pressure) in the lower abdomen
  • Urine that has a strong smell or is cloudy
  • Sometimes a little blood in the urine
In the case of vaginal yeast infection, there is usually a larger amount of vaginal discharge (resembling "cottage cheese") with the presence ofitchingitching, pain during sex, irritation and swelling of the labia. This does not seem to be the case for you at this time.
As your symptoms seem to be very mild at the moment, I recommend that you stay well hydrated (drink lots of water) over the next few days and monitor the evolution of your symptoms.
If your symptoms continue to resemble those of a urinary tract infection, it is very important to consult a physician. (The pharmacist cannot prescribe a treatment since this would be your first urinary tract infection).
) If you think it's a vaginal infection, I recommend that you consult your pharmacist so that he or she can advise you on the appropriate treatment.
In any case, if you develop a fever, if you have back pain or if your general condition is not good (for example, severe fatigue, loss of appetite), you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
I hope that I have answered your question correctly,
Pierre-Luc Tremblay, pharmacist
