Do I need a prescription for codeine cough syrup?

I had a cold 2 weeks ago. However I have a cough that persists. It happened to me 2 years ago when I was at my mom's and the only thing that made it better was a syrup with codeine. How do I get it? Because I can't sleep at night because of the coughing and sometimes I start coughing at random times during the day. (I ran out of a box of rapid tests to make sure it wasn't the covid)

Hello Mrs,
In order to better understand your needs and answer your questions, would it be possible to know if you currently have other symptoms besides coughing, such as a blocked or runny nose, even a little? Have you tried anything for this? Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?
Thank you for your time!

Other than the cough, I have no other symptoms. A week after my cold started, I no longer had the symptoms of nasal congestion, excessive mucus production, stuffy/runny nose... since then I only have a disturbing dry cough at night and at times during the day!
I have tried Dayquil syrup and then Buckley's syrup, but it doesn't help.
And I am not pregnant

Thanks for the feedback!
If the syrups you tried did not work, there is no guarantee that a syrup containing codeine will work any better. I would encourage you to check with your pharmacy, there is a codeine formulation behind the counter. You and your pharmacist can discuss this in person or over the phone.
