Can I take a cough syrup if I am taking citalopram?

Hello ma'am,

Some syrups contain ingredients that should be avoided with citalopram, due to the risk of interaction and little data indicating effectiveness.

Tylenol remains the best option for pain relief, you can also use lozenges like Halls or Fisherman's Friend for local relief.

Coughing is often caused by sinus drainage from the back of the throat. To this end, I suggest nasal hygiene with a saline solution such as Hydrasense or Sinus Rinse, which can be done as often as needed during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime

I also encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot, as you prefer.
