If I take atorvastatin at bedtime, when can I take my last 300 mg of St. John's wort? How many hours apart? Thank you

Hello, I would like to know the interactions between two products. Atorvastatin 10 mg, and St. John's wort ( 300 mg, 3X a day)

Good morning, Madam,
There are references that indicate an interaction between Atorvastatin and St. John's Wort. St. John's wort may decrease the effectiveness of Atorvastatin. If taken together, I don't have references for the spacing between the two, but St. John's Wort alters the metabolism of the drugs in the liver and this effect persists with St. John's Wort. Therefore, it may require an increase in the dose of Atorvastatin depending on follow-ups with your doctor and your blood tests. In general, it is best to avoid taking St. John's Wort.
St. John's Wort has interactions with many medications, so I recommend that you see your pharmacist if you are initiating St. John's Wort or to review other possible interactions on file.
Thus, non-pharmacological measures are usually the first approach if not already tried. Here are some of them:
  • Psychological follow-up with a health care professional
  • Relaxation techniques to reduce stress
  • Physical exercise according to tolerance
I hope this answers your question,
