I don't know if I should continue my son's antibiotic?

Hello, on Sunday, we went to the clinic because my 6 month old baby had a fever for more than 24 hours. The doctor told us that he had a red eardrum so it could be the beginning of an ear infection and we left with a prescription (pro amox). On Monday he tested positive for covid, so I think I'm giving the antibio for nothing...can I stop it or will he develop a "tolerance" to it? If I have to continue it, it gives him a lot of diarrhea...thanks

Good morning, ma'am,
Since the MD suspected an ear infection, regardless of the diagnosis of COVID, it would be prudent to complete the treatment. Is the diarrhea tolerable or could it compromise further treatment?

Well let's say he has several bowel movements a day, he "empties" himself... he doesn't have much weight to lose..

Thank you for the feedback.
If this side effect is intolerable, I strongly encourage you to consult your pharmacist who will be able to re-evaluate the therapy and, if necessary, adjust the dose to ensure a better tolerance while maintaining the effectiveness of the treatment. In addition, he/she will be able to ensure a close follow-up with you.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
