I take amoxicillin and I have a dry mouth?

46-year-old woman2 years ago
I am taking amoxicilin for a tooth infection. My mouth has been very dry since then and my throat is dry and sore because of it. I have 4 days left of treatment. Are these side effects recognized and how can I reduce them? Thank you

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
It is possible that amoxicillin causes dry mouth, but quite rare. You can try this to help relieve it a little:
  • Drink lots of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference
  • There are lozenges, gum, dental gel, mouth spray and mouthwash that can help stimulate salivation. There are several types available. Your pharmacist can tell you what is available and what you prefer
If this is secondary to the medication, it should stop at the end of the treatment.
I hope this has been helpful to you and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me
