How long can you apply a corticosteroid cream?

32-year-old woman3 years ago
My daughter has eczema-like redness/dryness on her hands, but mostly on her wrists. I applied the over the counter cortisone cream + moisturizer yesterday before bedtime and I already seem to see an improvement. I revised the way she washes her hands, rinses and dries them well and during the day she just puts on moisturizer after washing her hands.

Hi, thanks for your question!
As you will probably have deduced, hydration and non-pharmacological measures are the basis of the treatment. Unscented moisturizer should be applied as often as possible. It is also suggested that a fragrance-free soap such as Dove be used whenever possible
also, with the arrival of cold weather, gloves should be worn when going out
As for a corticosteroid cream, 1% hydrocortisone is available over the counter and can be applied once or twice a day, but not more than 4 consecutive weeks.
I hope this has been helpful to you, and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me
