Why is my vaginal discharge brown?

Vaginal discharge can have many different shades without this necessarily being a problem. A somewhat brown colored discharge may suggest bleeding, either menstrual in origin or related to a vaginal/vulvar injury. Sometimes women experience what is called "spotting", which is menstrual blood loss when they should not be menstruating. Has this ever happened to you?

In this case, I think it would be useful to discuss it with your doctor to see if a gynecological exam is necessary. I recommend that you contact your doctor in the next few days.
