I am a genital herpes carrier and my partner has cold sores. Can I still give him herpes?

Genital herpes is most often caused by HSV2 while HSV1 is most often associated with cold sores. However, it is possible for one to cause the other. It is therefore possible to transmit it to others for this reason.
