How do I know if my pill is still working for me?

27-year-old woman2 years ago
I have been taking the pill Maya, which is the generic of Yaz, for several months. For some time now I have been experiencing dizziness, bloating, headaches, sleep disturbances and sometimes diarrhea as I near the end of my pack. My doctor tells me that it is impossible that it is the pill since it is not listed in the side effects. She advised me to take my pill continuously to avoid PMS symptoms. Which I did. It's not any better. After 2 months in a row, the symptoms are worse and worse. I feel like I am having PMS even though I am still taking active pills. Is it true that it is impossible for this to be related to my pill? What can I do to stop these symptoms?

Hello ma'am, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
With the caveat that I would agree with the doctor, if the drug was involved, you would have these side effects all the time, not just the withdrawal period
Yes, these are side effects that are reported by the manufacturer, but usually the side effects are present while taking the drug, not the withdrawal period.
That's why he suggested continuous dosing, to see if it's the discontinuation period that's the issue.
Having said that, if you are still having these side effects, I would like to note that sometimes the body takes several months (3-6) to get used to a new diet, even if the only thing that has changed is the continuous intake.
If you suspect Yaz, I would suggest suspending it for a few weeks to months to assess the situation, but it is difficult to make this kind of recommendation, as there is too much information missing (e.g. why you are taking Yaz, previous trials, your other health conditions and medications, to name a few...).
Have you discussed this with your pharmacist? He/she is the best person to make suggestions to your doctor and follow up with you closely.
I hope this has been helpful to you and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Thank you for your answer, I misspoke, in fact his symptoms arrive at the approach of the period of withdrawal, but wait during the period of withdrawal

Thanks for the feedback!
It doesn't really change the answer. If these are side effects, they would be present throughout the cycle, theoretically.
