Are the hormones in the Alesse pill harmful in the medium and long term?

I had two children and did not go back on the pill after my last birth. I am now thinking of going back on it because I am having a lot of trouble with my periods.

Hello, ma'am,
The risks associated with using the pill are real, but are generally benign. In fact, that's why it's widely prescribed to women who don't have contraindications (certain types of migraines, recurrent clots, personal history of breast cancer, etc.).
Long-term use of the pill does, of course, provide better control of menstrual flow, but it also has protective properties on certain conditions, such as colorectal cancer.
I recommend that you talk to a doctor so that together you can make a decision about which contraceptive method you should use.
Good day,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
