Can I cut the Cipro tablet in half without affecting its effectiveness?

Hello, I have to take the antibiotic Cypro 500 mg for a urinary tract infection for 4 days already, one tablet twice a day (morning and evening). It is much too big and I can't swallow it, so I cut it with a pill cutter. Does it lose its effect? Will my infection still be treated? The planned treatment is for 7 days. Thank you for your help!

Hello Mrs,

Cipro tablets that are not extended-release (such as Cipro XL and generics) can be cut in half if they are too large. This should not affect the effectiveness.
