Can I take Pepcid if I am pregnant or trying to get pregnant?

Hello! I am trying to get pregnant with my first child. I have heartburn sometimes and I take Pepcid. I have read that this product is not recommended during pregnancy. Tums don't work for me and chewable tablets make my heart skip a beat. I looked for Zantac in the pharmacy, but I can't find it anywhere! Also, I was wondering if during the period between ovulation and my upcoming period, I am better off avoiding alcohol, food and any other medication that is not recommended during pregnancy? Is it overkill to do this or is it a cautionary tale?

Good morning, ma'am,
The data on Pepcid during pregnancy is reassuring. If it works well for your symptoms, you can continue it
(Unfortunately, there are supply problems with over-the-counter Zantac)
Sincerely,

Thank you! During the period between ovulation and my upcoming period, is it safer not to consume anything that I would not take while pregnant (e.g. alcohol, sushi, hibiscus tea, medication) as I could be pregnant without knowing it or are these unnecessary precautions?

Yes, that's right for alcohol, sushi, hibiscus and others. For the medicines you take, it will be case by case.
