My 3 year old daughter has had a lot of secretions in one eye for a few hours. There is also some redness and it stings. Do you think this is conjunctivitis? Should I give him drops? What can I do?

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
Is the discharge colored or rather clear? Does your child have any other symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose?

Hello,
The secretions are quite yellow. She has mentioned to me a few times that she has pain in one ear. No stuffy or runny nose.

Thanks for the clarification.
In a majority of cases this problem resolves itself. For now, hygienic and non-pharmacological measures are best: keep the area clean with a moist towel, taking care not to share or reuse the towel as this can be contagious, and the application of lubricating drops such as Systane Ultra, Refresh Tears and others to reduce discomfort.
If you notice that it gets worse, or does not improve within 5-7 days, or becomes accompanied by other symptoms, a doctor should be consulted.
Do not hesitate if you have any further questions!
