If you are experiencing pain, swelling or heat, do not apply heat, apply cold compresses

Taking Tylenol may help relieve the pain. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin and other brands) can also help, but you should check with your pharmacist to see if it is safe for you.

Applying lanolin ointment (Lansinoh) may help if you have irritation or chapping.

If the condition persists for more than 7 days without improvement or gets worse, you should see a doctor.
