I am leaving on a trip with a 2 year old on a cruise at the end of April in the USA and I would like to know what medication to bring in my emergency kit. Child with no known allergy, breastfed. Presence of eczema.

Hello ma'am,
For the child, here are my recommendations:
  • Advil or Tylenol with tool to administer (syringe for example),
  • Moisturizing cream without perfume
  • Benadryl or Reactin in oral liquid,
  • Saline solution in sealed vials, baby wipes and filters,
  • Diaper rash cream such as Zincofax extra strength or Triad
  • Sachets for rehydration (Pedialyte for example)
  • Sunscreen with SPF of at least 30,
  • Depending on the stopover, medication for traveler's diarrhea and mosquito repellent, your pharmacist may prescribe it if deemed appropriate, as well as any other product.
  • Her/his usual medication if necessary.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
