I sometimes have migraines with aura (+/- 1x year) and I take the contraceptive pill Lolo. Is it true that the risk of stroke is higher?

Hello Ma'am,
Not necessarily, no. That said, I am puzzled by the idea that you were prescribed this pill.
Were you prescribed Lolo™ before or after the auras arrived?

I was prescribed this pill after the auras arrived. I was actually on the Alesse pill and it wasn't working for me. I had a lot of pain in my breasts. With Lolo I never had any side effects.

Thank you!
In my opinion, we should change Lolo™ to a pill that contains only a progestin, like Micronor™.

Because migraines with aura are a relative contraindication to the use of estrogen supplements (what is found in Lolo).

Thanks for the follow up. I spoke with my doctor this morning regarding my concern about migraines with aura and my birth control pill and told her about Micronor. She wouldn't prescribe it to me as she said it was only for breastfeeding women and would not protect me from getting pregnant... I also mentioned that during the last few months, with Lolo, I had spotting in the middle of my pill pack (which never happened before)... so she wanted to prescribe me a pill with a little more estrogen so that it wouldn't happen anymore... I have to admit that I'm a little confused about her advice ..

Indeed, rather perplexed on my end too.
I think you should make up your own mind. You strike me as a woman who is curious and able to make decisions for herself. So I'm sharing this bedside reading with you: https://fmoq-legacy.s3.amazonaws.com/fr/Le%20Medecin%20du%20Quebec/Archives/2000%20-%202009/053-056DreMarquis0506.pdf.
Feel free to get back to me if this raises any questions.
As you'll see, auras are not necessarily a no-go when it comes to estrogen at your age, but it can be problematic if auras are not typical, increase in number or intensity after pill initiation, if you smoke, etc. And at 35, you'll have to look into another kind of birth control anyway...
There are several formulations of contraceptive progestins. Micronor™ is one (many women use it as birth control and it's very effective if taken at the same time each day), but there is also the IUD.

Perfect, I will do the reading. Thanks for your advice and time!
