Can Pantoloc taken long term cause secretions in the throat? If not, what could be the cause?

52-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I have been suffering from reflux for a few years now. I take PPI Pantoloc 20mg 1x a day in the mornings. They usually work well. My problem is that I continually have clear mucus in my throat. I was wondering if the Pantoloc could be the cause? I am waiting for the endoscopy. I have tried warm water and salt (gargle), drinking warm water, drinking lots of water, spitting out mucus, lozenges. I did allergy tests (nothing), I had a barium swallow (nothing) and I consulted 2 ENT who checked my nose with a camera (nothing). Where does this mucus come from and how can I get rid of it? Thank you

Hello ma'am, do you have any other symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose, even a little? Sneezing? Any other symptoms?

Good evening,
sometimes my nose runs, but very rarely. My nose is not blocked.
Usual sneezing, nothing abnormal. I don't know about the other symptoms you are looking for. I have headaches behind my eyes sometimes. I often have pain behind my shoulder blades.
So there you go,
Thanks

I have also been taking Cipralex for over 10 years. If it could be related

Thanks for the information!
Depending on the description of the situation, I would suggest nasal hygiene with a saline solution (Hydrasense, Sinus Rinse and others), which can be done as often as necessary during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Cleansing nasal secretions can greatly reduce some of your symptoms, especially the backward flow into the throat. It's a little unpleasant but it can work wonders!
If it helps partially, I suggest adding an anti-histamine like Claritin or Aerius. These are compatible options with your treatments and you can get an idea of how effective they are fairly quickly, 5-7 days.
I encourage you to try these measures. If they don't work, and the situation persists and affects your quality of life, you will need to consult.
I hope that I have been helpful, and I will remain available if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
