How can I reduce the number of yeast infections and is it normal for me to bleed during treatments?

20-year-old womana year ago
Hello, I am 19 years old and since I was about 10 years old I have had frequent yeast infections. I am doing the treatments to cure it but it keeps coming back. I have a lot of pain during sexual relations which is often accompanied by bleeding.

Hello, ma'am,
It should be noted that in people with frequent episodes, prevention therapy is usually recommended.
Yeast vaginitis most often occurs as a result of an imbalance in the vaginal flora. Several non-pharmacological measures can help reduce their frequency:
  • Avoid soaps and douches, especially those containing fragrances. Clear water only is suggested instead.
  • Avoid cleaning yourself after going to the bathroom from the bottom up: you should go from the top down during cleaning (from the front to the back).
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothes, and choose underwear that breathes better, such as cotton.
  • Avoid using condoms with flavors, fragrances and spermicides.
Probiotics are available, but their effectiveness has not been proven. Your pharmacist will be able to tell you which ones to use depending on the inventory available and your preferences. I do not recommend them because of their price and unproven effectiveness.
If these measures do not work and you have had 4 or more episodes in the last year, a medical evaluation will be necessary.
I hope this has been helpful and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me

Sorry for my late return! Yes, colored/pink/red discharge is possible during treatment.
