Why is it necessary to use a condom? If my partner has HPV, do we still need to wear a condom?

I just had a second consecutive ascus pap test (abnormal) and my gyno recommended I go for a colposcopy. I had the Gardasil vaccine when I was 14, so she didn't really seem concerned, but she did recommend that I use condoms in my sexual relationships until the colposcopy. I have been in a stable, monogamous relationship with the same partner for 3 years.

Hello ma'am, using a condom may reduce the risk of transmitting the virus. Having said that, it is possible that your partner has already been infected but it is impossible to determine this without a thorough evaluation.
