Can prenatal multi-vitamins with folic acid become less effective over time?

31-year-old woman2 years ago
In preparation for a desired pregnancy, I started the prenatal multi-vitamins with folic acid in August 2021. Still not pregnant, I am still taking them. I was wondering, due to the time frame of getting pregnant, if I will have to double the dose once I am pregnant? I'm afraid that my body will get used to it and it won't be as effective once I'm pregnant...

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
I want to reassure you that it can take up to 12 months to conceive, even in young healthy people. The main purpose of taking folic acid is to reduce the risk of genital malformation, and it is not recommended to double the dose, it will not make you more fertile :).
I hope I've put your mind at ease, don't hesitate if you have any other questions!
