What can I do to relieve my 4 year old son's congestion?

My 4 year old coconut is congested and sullen. He has a slight cough due to secretions in his throat. He has a slight fever. We gave tylenol and advil today which helped a little but not at all in the evening where the symptoms are worse. Nasal irrigation very difficult with him he is very uncooperative. We succeeded once, but the water does not come out of the 2nd nostril. When we blow his nose with a handkerchief, it gets stuck in his sinuses and he immediately starts crying from discomfort probably.

Good evening Mrs
Nasal hygiene remains the only treatment that is both effective and safe. In reluctant children, I strongly suggest to do it as often as necessary, even if it means using some of the mixture, and even doing it during the bath
Vicks ointment can help with congestion and can be applied to the chest or back. Just make sure you get the right product for his age.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot depending on their preference
I would also like to point out that the combination or alternation of Advil and Tylenol for fever is not recommended without medical advice or supervision. One of the two should be sufficient to relieve the fever.
I remain available if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,

I agree. The advil and tylenol were not given alternately but rather advil during the day because that's what I had and in the evening we opted for tylenol since it was gentler on the stomach. My son having eaten less I thought that Advil might be more irritating on his empty stomach
thank you for the advice, we will persevere with the nasal hygiene

You thought right about Advil/Tylenol! Time will do its work but nasal hygiene remains the most important thing!
I wish you a good continuation!
