Should I be concerned about the persistent/recurring wet cough?

My 2 boys, 3 and 4 years old, had the flu 3 -4 weeks ago (coughing, runny nose). The symptoms have diminished a lot a few days ago but the coughing fits are starting again/persistent.

Hello Mrs.,
Do your children have other symptoms like runny nose, even a little, sneezing, or other?
Have you tried anything for the problem for them?
Are they taking any other medications?
Thank you for your help!

they sneeze occasionally and their nose runs a little. I fly them several times a day with hydrasense. I also give the syrup helixia prospan. They do not have fever. My oldest, the 4 year old has been taking Alvesco 100mcg 2x a day for about 2 months due to night coughs

Thanks for the information!
It is normal for the cough to be the last symptom to go away, even after some time after an infection. Your best solution is to encourage them to drink often, cold or hot liquids, depending on their preference. I don't know if your syrup is effective, I don't recommend it given the lack of effectiveness of syrups, a teaspoon of honey would be just as effective. On the other hand, I strongly recommend, if not recommended, nasal hygiene with a saline solution such as Hydrasense or Sinus Rinse, which can be done as often as needed during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. This is the best thing to prevent coughing when sinus secretions go down the throat.
