Hello,
Methotrexate is indeed a product that can decrease male fertility and it is now believed that it can also increase the risk of certain congenital malformations in the unborn child if it is the father who takes it and not only the mother.
There is still little data on this, some fertility specialists will have the drug withheld for a few weeks before stopping birth control. Folic acid supplements will need to be taken by the mother starting at least 1 to 3 months before stopping birth control and starting to try to get pregnant.
If the condition is well controlled, it is possible to temporarily switch to other treatments (e.g. cream/ointment) after evaluation by your dermatologist.
If suspension of the product is not possible for several months or weeks, it is possible to stop the product for a shorter period of time and freeze the sperm during this period in a fertility clinic. These specialists have proven protocols for maximizing the chances of pregnancy while minimizing the risks.
In short, there are precautions to take, but it is entirely possible to have a safe pregnancy with this product.
I hope I've helped you today!
