Should we still tube him even though he hasn't had an ear infection in 4 months?

My 15 month old boy has tube surgery on April 4. We have been waiting for the date for 4 months because he had repeated ear infections for 4 months. The ENT specialist found that he had fluid. However, following the appointment, so for the last 4 months, no ear infections.
