I am pregnant and have a bad cold, what can I take?

I am pregnant (first trimester) and I have a bad cold. Headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat. I take Diclectin 3x a day, 2 tablets, for the nausea, otherwise no other medication. I am breastfeeding my toddler 2x a day. Can I take an over the counter medication to relieve the symptoms, especially at night, because they keep me from sleeping well?

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
First of all, I strongly suggest nasal hygiene with a saline solution (Hydrasense, Sinus Rinse and others), which can be done as often as necessary during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Cleansing nasal secretions can greatly relieve many of your symptoms.
For headaches and sore throats, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is your best option, effective and safe during pregnancy. I also suggest lozenges like Halls and Fisherman's Friend that are safe during pregnancy for local relief of irritation. I like Fisherman's Friend because it is sugar free.
I also encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference. A humidifier can also help relieve symptoms
Finally, if you haven't already done so, I encourage you to get tested for COVID. If you do not have a test at home, please do not go to the pharmacy, I suggest you send someone for you or call the pharmacy for a delivery.
I hope this was helpful, please don't hesitate if you have any further questions!
