Is there any other drug besides metformin with fewer side effects?

Hello! My doctor prescribed me Metformin, started at 250mg morning and evening, then 500mg, morning and evening and increased to 850mg, morning and evening and now I have a lot of diarrhea and abdominal pain. In addition, I have IBS, so I am very sensitive to the medication. I want to cut the 850mg in 2.

Hello Sir,
This is a very common side effect of metformin. However, it is important to try to continue it as much as possible because it has many benefits. In cases where there is a possible intolerance, the best thing to do is to try to decrease the dose, even if only temporarily.
You can cut the metformin in half, but I think the best way is to inform your pharmacist: he/she can lower the dose and serve you an appropriate strength, inform your doctor of the procedures, and follow up with you (blood sugar levels, tolerance, etc.).
I hope this helps, and I am available if you have any further questions!
