My doctor wants to prescribe me this medication but on the internet he says that there are side effects like suicidal thoughts. Is atomoxetine safe for a 15 year old child?

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
There have been reports of suicidal thoughts or attempts with medications acting like atomoxetine. This occurs mostly at the beginning of treatment and at dose changes, but can occur at any time. However, it is very difficult to establish a cause and effect relationship, also considering that people with ADD/ADHD may also be at increased risk for suicidal thoughts from the start. Also, social relationships that may be affected by this condition may contribute to suicidal thoughts.
I want to reassure you, however, that this is still rare, and that simple monitoring of general condition while communicating regularly with family members and notifying those around you are usually sufficient. With this type of medication, the benefits outweigh the risks. The effects of ADD/ADHD on his or her learning, development and social interactions are not insignificant.
Hopefully you have been reassured, please do not hesitate if you have any further questions
