Increasing Inderal from 60 to 80mg, what do I need to know?

33-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, I have been taking Inderal 60mg for migraine prevention since last July. On 28 calendar days for the month of February I had 14 headaches/migraines. This is the first major relapse since I have been taking Inderal continuously. My doctor has put Inderal 80mg on my chart, is it a good idea to switch to 80mg? Thank you

Thank you for your question!
When the effectiveness of the medication taken for the prevention of migraines fails or diminishes, if it has been well tolerated, an increase in the dose can be attempted. This may be temporary depending on your condition and expectations.
If you have not experienced signs or symptoms of hypotension, such as low blood pressure or heart rate, a decrease may be attempted, but this is on a case by case basis :)

So increasing the dose can be considered?

If it is something that has been discussed between you and your doctor and all aspects of the medication have been evaluated (including efficacy and tolerability), I don't see a problem with it. It is a drug that can even be used at a higher dose than 80mg in some people, for the same indication.
Keep in mind that I am speaking in general terms, as I do not know your case as well as your doctor or pharmacist.
Sincerely
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
