Pain and bleeding after a PAP test?

24-year-old woman3 years ago
Hi, I had a pap test today as part of an annual physical. Since the appointment, I have been having pain from time to time that is similar to menstrual pain. I noticed that I had a little bit of bleeding, like the beginning or end of menstruation (it was brownish) when I went to the bathroom in the evening. I am not supposed to be menstruating since I am on the pill continuously and it has always worked well. Is this normal? I had been warned about possible bleeding, but I was expecting faster and/or redder bleeding.

Hello Ma'am, thank you for your question!
Although unpleasant, bleeding/spotting is not abnormal, even if you are on the pill continuously. The situation usually goes away on its own. I would suggest, if you are willing, that you continue your contraceptive as planned.
Hopefully I have been helpful, I remain available if you have any further questions!
