I have been having more frequent headaches since I lowered my dose of elavil, should I go back to my original dose?

Hello, I have been taking a 20mg dose of Elavil for more than a year due to frequent headaches which are mainly related to muscular pains in the neck and arnold's nerve as well. Since a few months, my pains were really better following conclusive follow-ups with a chiro doing soft manipulations and my doctor had advised me to try to decrease my dose progressively, which I tried to do since 3 weeks by taking 10mg per evening. However, since then, I have had a headache as it has been a long time since I have had any pain. My question: Should I go back to a 20mg dose considering that I have such a headache since then or is it too early to judge the effect?

Hello Mrs,
If the dose was only decreased in order to stop the medication without any severe reason such as intolerance, interaction or contraindication, I do not see any problem in trying to increase the dose, but I strongly suggest that you consult your pharmacist who will be able to evaluate the situation in depth and advise you more completely, in addition to ensuring a close follow-up with you.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
